365 Days of Wonderful – Day 114

Today I am grateful for the simple things in life.

I LOVE this time of year when it seems as if each day some other shrub is busting out in Full Bloom. My lilacs are starting to blossom… any day now they will be in full bloom. The neighbor has a peony tree, that is about to burst, as well.

When life is full of chaos, I appreciate these little treasures. I am grateful for the slowing down, that my morning walk affords. This is my mindfulness walking meditation. This deliberate action makes me feel like all is right in the world. The rhythm of my pace, the pounding of my heart as I trot up the hills, the breath in my lungs, the bird song, the light on the mountains, the shear enthusiasm of my dog–to take in that one more smell… O! Glorious Day! I am grateful for the clouds, the water, the Big Sky.

Speaking of little things, I have been delighting watching for my little Junco family. This morning I spotted the parents in my pear tree sunning themselves. I patiently waited, watched, and they disappeared into the bluebells at the base of the tree. “Lucky” has been successfully relocated to his temporary shelter while he grows his wings. My lawn guy came today, and I made him mow only half the lawn–as I did not want to chance stressing out Junior, nor his parents.

After work I peered out the window for about 10 minutes, waiting to see if all was well with the family unit after the mowing was done… and Voila! My little junco family is well. I watched the father bird pluck moss from the tree and take it into the bluebell den. When the little Junco was in the middle of the lawn, I was so worried for what the birds do at night. Yes, seriously… those kind of answers do not show up on the internet. Being graced by my Junco Family has blessed my life, and my yard, and it has enriched my scientific field discoveries on the life, nesting habits, and fledgling of these every day birds. __________________ 365 Days of Wonderful ~ A Daily Gratitude Practice for re-framing life with a slant toward the positive.
