Day 25: Today I am grateful for the birds.

365 Days of Wonderful – Day 25

I am grateful for the birds. Today’s walk was graced by a Pileated Woodpecker–two sightings! SO COOL.

As I sit to write my daily Wonder-fulls… I scan back over my day and wonder what I did–what are the highlights?! LOL So I pick up the camera and see what I shot. Can I just say that I am so completely grateful for my morning walks. Yep, I LOVE my morning walks. I am so grateful that I live near the harbor and I can walk down to the bay each day. This connection to water is so essential to me. It fills my soul with delight.

I love the purple blue grey hues on the water today. I sighted a seal, and thought that I had not seen on in a while. It dipped beneath the surface before I could capture it. I like to think of the seals as water dogs. They are SO lovely.

I walked on the dock at the boat launch today, and felt the motion of the water undulating, and thought–“Oh man it has been WAY too long since I have been on my board.” Sometimes I get busy, and distracted, well, OK and it has been winter… but really! I just need a dry day, and I can gear up appropriately. This girl needs to get on the water–another soul-filling activity for me… OK I digress.

On the way home, I captured a short video of a very large Pileated Woodpecker on top the telephone pole… and then he showed up at my suet feeder! Happy that he gave me an up close look, while he enjoyed breakfast. I love these amazing birds.

So today I am grateful for the birds. The ducks, and herons, and crows, the Black Capped Chicadees, the Rufus Sided Towhees, the Starlings, the Humming Birds. I am blessed by their presence on my walks, and at my feeders.

My yard is a sanctuary for the birds. I love giving the hummers year round all-you-can-eat access at my feeders. I recently bought a second feeder so they could (maybe) fight a little less. I also scatter black sunflower, and provide bird baths, one on the ground and one in a stand a few feet off the ground. Grace likes to sit on the porch and watch all the activity. She excellent at squirrel abatement. 😉

May you find the joy and wonder in the little things in your day. Enjoy the sights and sounds of the birds in your world. They are magic and levity in our days.
